The 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Vigneto Alto TB is youthfully inward and coy, with nuances of sweet exotic spice, minty herbs and wild strawberries. This is cool-toned, with vivid red berries and saturating notes of cinnamon and clove carried by brisk acids that not only add vibrancy, but also a juicy sensation throughout. Grippy tannins slowly mount toward the close under an air of tobacco and dark inner florals. The 2011 finishes structured and remarkably long with salted licorice and violet candies.

A bold, full-bodied red, with a rich nose of tar, loamy earth and smoke meeting ripe blackberry, violet, plum sauce and milled white pepper on the palate. Shows grippy tannins, but they're wrapped in the palate's juicy flavor range, lending sculpted weight and definition without bulk. Drink now through 2036. 258 cases made.

A single vineyard that is not the highest of altitude, despite the name suggesting otherwise. Octogenarian vines. Scents of menthol, camphor and Chinese medicine cabinet. Exotic. A thick slick of tannins direct the flavors to impressive length. Drink or hold.
