B‑21 normally has excellent service. The shipments apparently got a little behind for the holidays in the year 2024. There were some confusion in three of my orders, but eventually this was cleared up after the new year.

A wine that was reserved for enjoyment at the end of the family hunt from its inception in 1930 until commercialisation in 1950, this is made at a slightly lower pressure than the other Champagnes in the Roederer stable at 4 bar giving a creamier mousse. Grapes come from four plots in Avize with two in the centre and one on the border of Cramant and Ogier. Designed to be consumed as an aperitif wine when young, the Blanc de Blancs epitomises freshness and delicacy. Lively and elegant on the nose and palate, with a long mineral streak from start to finish. Sharp and thrilling, intense with lemon pastry flavours and a creamy round mouthfeel. Straight yet wide, rich but lean, direct yet juicy, this really offers a complex and very individual style that captivates from the first sip. Delicious.

Roederer’s Blanc de Blancs Vintage 2015 is a mid-slope cuvée from 4 plots with the chalkiest soils. Aged for at least five years plus six months post disgorgement, it is finished with an eight grams per liter dosage. An inviting and delicately fragrant bouquet of ripe Meyer lemon, white peach, elderflower and chalk dust introduce a wonderfully creamy, medium-bodied palate that is animated with vivid acid vibrancy that deftly unifies the pure citrus fruit at its core. Harmonious, refreshing and finishing with persistence and poise, this 2015 sticks the landing, so to speak.

Entirely from four plots the house has in Avize, the 2015 Champagne Blanc De Blancs pours a bright silver straw hue and is a forward vintage that’s more about its texture than primary fruit characteristics, with a pronounced chalky profile and notable tannin structure. The nose lifts with aromas of fresh white flowers, green, apple, and fresh pear. Medium-bodied with a structured core, it’s long on the palate and has a more grounded sensibility, with its refined mousse lifting it off the palate with a clean finish. I would prefer to give this another couple of years in the cellar and drink 2025-2035.

The 2015 Blanc de Blancs is a fabulous choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Soft and creamy, the 2015 is immediately caressing in its embrace. Citrus confit, white flowers, spice and a hint of pastry all meld together. There is something effortless about the 2015 that is hard to describe. The 2015 is not the last word in complexity, but it is supremely delicious. Terrific for the year. Dosage is 8 grams per liter.
