Driven by “energy and passion” according to Vinous critic Antonio Galloni, fifth generation Nicolas Rossignol returned to his family’s Burgundy estate and established his own domain in 1997 with three hectares of inherited vines, eventually merging his vineyards with his family’s holdings and producing Burgundies on over 17 hectares of biodynamically farmed vineyards spanning 30 appellations south of Beaune. The 2017 Pommard Clos de Verger 1er Cru is Rossignol’s "new kid on the block," that block being actually next to Les Arvelets. This is 100% de-stemmed. It has a very pure black cherry and wild strawberry scented bouquet, revealing hints of pressed iris and incense. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin shot through with fine acidity. Very harmonious, with an almost Volnay-like, sensual finish thanks to the clay soils. Excellent.

From a clay-rich site, the 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Clos de Verger offers up a rich bouquet of plummy fruit, spices and subtle new wood. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and gourmand, with a generous core of fruit, melting tannins and a pure finish.
