Crafted from 100% Sangiovese, the entry-level, 91-point 2020 Avignonesi Rosso offers fresh, juicy red fruit that’s “vivid and delicious” according to James Suckling, with soft tannins on a smooth, balanced finish. The taut and transparent center palate is followed by a long and minerally ethereal finish. Beguilingly light in form, but intense with flavors. “Pinot” finesse here. Dusty roses, dried strawberries and worn leather form a classic bouquet as the 2019 Nobile di Montepulciano Poggetto di Sopra blossoms in the glass. Soft and round, this showcases saline minerals and crisp wild berry fruits over a core of brisk acidity that adds tension toward the close. Licorice and violet pastille linger through the finish as the 2019 tapers off lightly structured and long.
