Now considered a pioneer in the region for being among the first to estate bottle his wines and craft ageworthy Burgundy with a sense of place, Hubert de Montille took over his family's estate at the age of 17 in 1947 after it had dwindled to only 2.5 hectares and set about rebuilding the domaine's holdings while establishing a stellar reputation. The 2019 Pommard Les Cras, including 50% whole cluster, has a bold blackberry and raspberry bouquet that was a little backward, as it had only just gone through malo. The palate is structured for a Village Cru, offering good depth and grip and earthy black fruit tinged with tobacco on the finish. Very fine.
