This red draws you in with the purity and depth of its cherry, raspberry, iron, tobacco and black tea aromas and flavors, while the dense structure lends support. Balanced, yet needs more time to really shine, with juicy acidity defining the lingering aftertaste. Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Best from 2024 through 2038. 7,500 cases made, 4,000 cases imported.

This has notes of blackberries, charred sage, tomato leaves, chocolate orange and crushed gravel. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity. Lovely, creamy yet firm tannins. Try from 2023.

Here's another incredible value. The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva (a blend of mostly Sangiovese with other local grapes in a supporting role) shows balance from a classic vintage. Black fruit is interwoven with spice, crushed stone and grilled herb. All of the elements here are in place to showcase this promising Tuscan appellation. The house style is on the more extracted side, but that's also a trait of this vintage. Some 90,000 bottles were produced.

The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva is dark, fleshy and super-expressive. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, leather and blood orange flesh out in a potent, earthy Riserva loaded with character. This bold, flavorful Riserva has quite a bit to offer.

At the eastern confines of the Chianti Classico region, Castello di Querceto is located in a cool valley with warm south to west exposures. The elevation (up to 520 metres) and moderating effect of surrounding woodlands is felt in the fresh nuances of mint, tobacco, cedar and pine, as well as tangy acidity - yet there is ripeness to the exuberant cherry and blackberry fruits. It is one of the more vigorous, structured examples of 2019 Riserva and its hefty, chewy tannins need a bit of time.
