Crushed rocks and hints of gunpowder waft up from the Aglianico del Vulture Il Repertorio, before it evolves further with a pretty display of dusty roses, black cherries and lavender. This is silky and elegant in feel, lifted by brisk acids which further enliven the red and blue fruits found within. The 2020 leaves a staining of sweet tannin, which provides a structured feel without slowing its momentum, as black currants and balsam herbs slowly taper off. This is a dark beauty yet there’s an underlying power that demands a short stay in the cellar before fully revealing all of its charms.
