I exclusively use B‑21 for my online wine purchases. I may check around on other sites to see pricing, but B‑21 is always at least the same price, if not less. The website is easy to use. I typically purchase cases and try to take advantage of any free shipping offers. Since I don't like to wait around the house for delivery (UPS needs to verify age), I just have it shipped to the local CVS in town. It's usually there for pickup in less than a week of purchase.

Dating back to 1884, Penfolds' founders Dr. Christopher Penfold and his wife Mary were among the first to establish vineyards in Adelaide, planting vine cuttings they brought from France and England near the village of Magill around a stone cottage they called The Grange, originally crafting the wine as a "tonic" for the doctor’s patients. Expanding into the next century as a leader in the Australian wine industry, Penfolds' pioneering winemaker Max Schubert crafted the initial release of Bin 28 in 1959, named for the Bin or “Batch Identification Number” referring to its storage area in Penfolds' cellars and sourced from the historic Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard. The Barossa has the ability to convey a sense of place, dirt and air in the glass. The trick is to not get in the way—a cooper does not terroir make. Despite not being the dominant region in this blend (for specificity: McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Padthaway and Clare Valley), the Barossa makes a potent contribution. Here, in the 2020 Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz, the concentrated, dry and warm vintage is on show and provides a splay of earthy, dense fruit, stretched over a framework of savory tannin. Despite Penfolds's reputation for big tannins/big oak, the fruit here overpowers both and streams out over the long finish. The heart of Barossa is here. Very good. Will get better.
