Once again there is a hint of reduction that strikes me that it is not likely to persist on the riper aromas of poached plum, black cherry and discreet wood toast nuances. The gorgeously textured, velvety and caressing medium weight flavors display impressive power, serious and firm finale. This well-balanced and imposing effort should age well over the next decade. One to look for. *Outstanding*

The 2022 Clos des Barraults premier cru is the ripest wine in the Juillot family lineup of reds this year, as the wine comes in at a full 14.5 percent alcohol. The bouquet is deep, black fruity and impressively fresh and vibrant for its octane, wafting from the glass in a mix of black cherries, black plums, dark chocolate, spit-roasted pigeon, dark soil tones, cedary oak, violets and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and nicely plush on the attack, with lovely depth of fruit, good soil undertow, ripe, buried tannins, good acids and fine focus and balance on the long, complex and gently warm finish. This truly carries its alcohol very well and should age very nicely. My gut feeling is the higher alcohol level will probably result in the wine both drinking earlier and not lasting quite as long as the other 2022 red wines from Laurent Juillot, but it will provide very good drinking during its time in its plateau.
