Orma means footprint in Italian and certainly the Sette Ponti estate’s Super Tuscan blend Orma has established a large one – upon its initial release in 2005, wine critic James Suckling declared, “this Bordeaux blend from Bolgheri is a challenger to Sassicaia and Ornellaia.” Nestled between these two estates near the west coast of Tuscany, pioneering proprietor Antonia Moretti and celebrated consulting winemaker Giuseppe Caviola craft the flagship Orma cuvee of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, these top Orma vintages rivalling their high-profile neighbors in a range of formats and each delivering exceptional value at a fraction of the price.

The cabernet sauvignon character comes through nicely in this red, particularly on the palate, with currants, both red and black, as well as dried flowers and cedar. Some lead pencil as well. Medium body, with polish, finesse and beauty. Lovely length and grace. This is a move towards better balance and energy for Orma. One to watch. A blend of mostly merlot with cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Best after 2026, but already a very attractive young wine.
