Mashed grains and rich bread crust wallop the nose with brewhouse aromatics. This dunkel has the makings of a spectacular beer—its easy blend of bread crust, light biscuit and nuttiness embodies the style—but feels a touch thin as it washes over the tongue. Along the way, subtle peppery, earthy hop notes make some noise. No doubt, this beer’s highly drinkable, but its mouthfeel falls short of the “liquid bread” descriptor commonly attached to the style.
