Spaten's Optimator pours deep gold in color with great clarity and a creamy tan head that seems to want to last forever. The aroma is distinct, with an assertive graininess and mild caramel sweet notes coming through clean, with little support from the hops in the beer. Optimator's flavor is complex, but not deep, showing caramel malt sweetness up front and grainy, almost husky, astringency on the sides of the mouth and into the throat. While the beer is easy to drink, it simply does little to stand out, offering a medium body, mild alcohol warmth, and little more than a well-made, high quality taste.
